MIAMI MAYOR SPEAKS: Francis Suarez Says Billboards Are “Beyond Any Bounds Of Decency” and “Pathetic”, No Comment On Acevedo’s Misconduct
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez spoke out against mobile billboards driving around Coconut Grove, City Hall, and the Police Department, displaying information about Miami’s embattled police Chief Art Acevedo.
“This is beyond any bounds of decency and pathetic,” Suarez said in an email from his personal address.
Suarez was noticeably absent from a heated city commission meeting Monday regarding his Chief, who he once called “the Michael Jordan” of police chiefs, but who was known as “the LeBron James of self promotion” in Houston, Texas. Suarez, who courted Acevedo to Miami—bypassing a selection process that was already moving forward—offered no comment about the disturbing record that has followed Chief Acevedo from California, to Austin, to Houston, and now to Miami.
“Miami’s mayor owns all of this,” the Miami Herald Editorial Board wrote.
For several hours, Miami City Commissioner Joe Carollo read the entirety of a detailed backgrounder, along with other concerning details, about Acevedo’s career in law enforcement during today’s meeting.
